Day 103

1/31/2020

Boy, I bet there are some happy teachers today.  Especially the poor ones.
The Chemistry students went to the library today and reviewed isotope notation and then they blew up some cities. It was pretty cool.
The AP Biology students finished up the Genetics of Populations lab today. We're almost done with this unit and that must mean that an exam is coming.

I want to go to Yellowstone again but I'll settle for the Big Island.
The Chemistry students continued with the Nuclear Chemistry Unit today by taking a quiz on what they know about radiation and nuclear chemistry stuff and we also figured out how much radiation we have been exposed to in the last year.
The AP Biology students went outside and mated, randomly I suppose, with another class in order to meet the Hardy-Weinberg requirement of a large population.  I think we were still too small.

There was a shooter drill on campus today. And such is the country in which you live...........
The Chemistry students began the Nuclear Chemistry Unit today by checking out nuclear weapons and their use in Hollywood productions. Most are horrible but a couple of good ones could be found.
The AP Biology students did Case 4 in the Genetic of Populations lab. Yes, a lot of mating was going on.

So, I'm writing this entry during 5th Period while they're taking the exam. Guess how many "students" have asked me if there is going to be re-take? And guess how many of those students screwed around during the review stuff for this exam?  Yup, just about all of them. Maybe I should use Collaboration Days to go over how to make a hamburger or how to break into a 2014 Honda Accord instead of talking about college.
Yeah, the Chemistry students took the Acid and Base Exam today. Next stop, Nuclear Chemistry!  Hahaha.  Good Luck.
The AP Biology students examined the amazing relationships among organisms and how they can evolve together.  Crazy woman that Mother Nature.

OK Chemistry students, here's the thing. The Acid and Base Exam is tomorrow. There is a lot to study.  This is what I recommend doing today:

1. Don't be addicted to your phone and go to the Quizlet I made and actually study!

2. If you are unsure how to do the titration calculations or concentration calculations, try some of the examples I passed out today.  I have the key.  Check it!

3. FOCUS ADAM!

4. Check out some of the links below but only do that if you're sure you can do the calculations.

Day 98

Friday came fast this week, didn't it?
The Chemistry students practiced some titration calculations and discussed the properties of acids and bases.  The Exam is next Tuesday!
The AP Biology students went to the library today to work on the Evolution online assignment. We may do this again on Monday but I haven't decided yet.

People have the flu I think. Or they're super lazy.  Probably a mix.
The Chemistry students reviewed some calculation stuff for the exam next Tuesday.  I left in the afternoon to get a crown put in at the dentist. Does anyone like the dentist? Not the person, but the whole experience. It sucks.
The AP Biology students continued their look at the Hardy-Weinberg problems which become pretty easy real quick.  I think most of the students got it by now.

More working today!
The Chemistry students finished up the titrations (if necessary) and we began a review of the material that will be on the exam next week!

Here is that Quizlet link:

Back after a long weekend of doing a lot.  In my case anyway.  I did a lot.
The Chemistry students worked on titrations all period long.  I think about 1/3 of the groups finished.  We will have some class time tomorrow to work on them but then any titrations that have to be finished will happen during Achievement.
The AP Biology got their first introduction to the Hardy-Weinberg Principle which is pretty cool if you ask me. We also saw some more of that Evolution video with the provocative title.

Another Friday and we're one closer to the end. I don't mean the bad end, I mean the good one.
Chemistry students!! Attention!! You know I am not here today so you should check out these links regarding titrations.  Do that first!

OK, now complete the worksheet I left you.  This will go into your folder when we return next week.
