Day Three

3/18/2020

The headline in the San Francisco Chronicle this morning was:

State schools likely Closed through Spring

Holy Crap.  As you know, this is my last year of teaching. Jamie too. Is it possible that I have already taught my last lesson in Room 1204?

This is a weird feeling.

Day Two

Sounds like we are definitely going to be off until April 14th which, of course, is a totally arbitrary date having nothing to do with public health or medical knowledge.
I already started getting stir crazy today. I went to Sportsman Warehouse and got Jamie some small binoculars for her burgeoning hobby of birdwatching. I also got some wood pellets for the smoker which isn't funny at all. The weather, along with the stock market, really sucks. I guess that's good because you don't feel bad about eating tortilla chips with straight sour cream in you pajamas even though it's 2 in the afternoon.  I think we're still going to try to go camping on Thursday.  What's the worst thing that could happen? Infection? Coyote attack? We are going for it.  Our new trailer's first trip!! Yay! Of course, it could be its last to what with civilization collapsing and all.

Day One of COVID-19

Monday......cough cough.....no food......walls closing in.....screaming......a child screamng......no, it's me......air....I need air.........cough cough........darkness......darkness

So, the first day of the "break" - I'm calling it a break not because I think we're on a break from school. I just like using break because it's way better than "disease" or "end of civilization". I just kinda chilled all day.  Jamie had to go to school and she actually had some students! She has to go to school tomorrow but without kids.  I think they're planning for some type of distance learning thing.  I did go to West Valley in the morning. Vaz, Lenny and Wyrick were there. Tom thought school was on because he didn't check his email. Should I tell you what I watched on TV? I guess I could.

Day 129-Day 143

Well, well, well.  This is weird.
I have some crazy days during my teaching career.  The birth of my kids happened during a school day. Snow storms cancelled days. Power outages have cancelled days. 9/11 was a school day. When OJ was acquitted was a weird day.
This tops them all.  When we get back to school, there will only be 37 school days left in my career.  If we get back to school this year.

So weird.

This Friday 13th and nothing at all bad happened today. Hahahahahahaha.
The Chemistry students reviewed Boyle's Law by playing with a vacuum pump and checking out some of the scientific jargon from a real cool movie.
The AP Biology students went to the library to put the finishing touches on their disease brochures and the online disease thing. We'll check out some living microorganisms next week.

Wash your hands and if you're sick, stay home!
The Chemistry students went over the ideas of Force and Pressure. We then talked about the first of the Gas Laws: Boyle's Law. As pressure on a gas does up, its volume goes down. And vice versa. Check out the power point below.
The AP Biology students read about Charles Monet which is a made up name for a man that kind of melted because of a viral infection.  It was pretty gross.

Wash your hands and stay home if you feel sick.  Please!!
The Chemistry students went over the Planet X activity from yesterday.  There was a lot of students gone for the WW2 museum especially during 6th period.
The AP Biology students really did not exist today.  Only the 4 seniors (Marcus, Haydin, Brooke and Trevor) were around today. That WW2 thing real did effect a lot of people.

Day 123

Day 123? That means the school year is 41/60ths of the way complete. Only 19/60ths left to go!
The Chemistry students finished watching something really scary in light of the current situation in the world.  You know, COVID-19 and other stuff.
The few AP Biology students that were actually here went to the computer lab today to work on their research concerning their disease-causing microorganisms.
