Day 82

The last Monday of the first semester! Big review stuff in each class but, I will tell you, it is amazing how many students would rather be on their phones (give 'em rope and watch what they tie) than prepping for the finals. Oh well, we'll see what happens.
The Chemistry students got some direct tutoring from the teacher on the ins and outs of stoichiometry, our special friend.
The AP Biology students went over a bunch of genetic stuff.  We will continue that tomorrow.

Who is the best number 81 of all time?  You think about that.
The Chemistry students continued their preparation for the Final Exam which happens next week. Some students aren't really doing that much. I guess they're super confident.  Hahahahaha.
The AP Biology students began a formal review of the genetic material that will be on their Final.  That sounds weird.  Reviewing genetic material?  Is this CSI or something?

Finals are almost here! And so is Livi!!
The Chemistry students did a couple things today. First, we went over the practice problems from the Unit 4 Practice Exam.  Second, students began making sure that their folders are complete so that they may be eligible for taking older objectives on the final exam. Some students also put the finishing touches on the Stoichiometry Lab.
The AP Biology students went over mutations and some DNA technology stuff that, I'm sure, will show up on the Final Exam. I wonder if commas are necessary in that previous sentence. Maybe. Maybe not.

Hey hey Collaboration Day!  Today is the last Collaboration Day of the year. We talked about Stanford, that bastion of snobbery and elitism. Actually, if not for Cal, it would be one of the better schools in the Bay Area behind San Francisco State and College of San Mateo.

This equation shows the burning of methane gas in the presence of oxygen gas. If you have 40 grams of methane and an excess of oxygen gas, how many grams of water is produced?

Not sure about balancing equations?  Try this game:

Got balancing equations figured out? Great! How about converting grams to moles or moles to grams? Can you do that? Not sure?  Try this game:

I feel horrible.  I made it through 4th period but I went home after that. Flu or something.
The AP Biology students worked on the Electrophoresis Lab and some students turned it in. The students got the last 2 Chapter Reading Guides for the semester.  Those are due next Tuesday.
The Chemistry students during first period continued working on the Stoichiometry Lab by checking out how their reactions did over the weekend and tweaking their filtering process to get as much of that solid back as possible. 5th and 6th period students started a review of the material on Unit 4 stuff, too.

Another Friday has come and gone. Tonight is the big State football game but it's at Red Bluff which sucks.
The AP Biology students saw the results of the electrophoresis procedure which we did yesterday.  The gels turned out great despite me not getting help from ANYBODY!!  Anywho, they are good and we got some good data from those gels.
Chemistry had a weird day. The chemical reaction that produces 2.00 grams of a product, at least for some groups, is taking its own sweet time to produce that product.  Some groups were able to begin their filtration process to isolate the solid while other groups waited. We will continue this effort on Monday.
