The last day before Spring Break!!!! Yay!! And there's a bunch of tests today! Double yay!!
The Chemistry students took the first part of the Gas Exam today. When we get back, we cover the remaining objectives for the Gas Unit. Gas
The AP Biology students took the Microorganisms and Disease Exam today. When we return, Body Systems and Cell Communication.

Day 138

Break is so close I can taste it! Not literally though; that'd be weird.
The Chemistry students finished the big review for the first part of the Gas Exam. Tomorrow, we test!
The AP Biology students also reviewed today for the Microorganisms and Disease Exam which is also tomorrow. Wanna bet a few kids don't show? I bet 4 don't make it.

Day 137

3/27/2018

Today was the school-wide write. During 2nd period. That meant I have 2 hours off in the morning cuz I have 2nd period prep. I'm writing this entry during this time.
The Chemistry students recovered from the write by watching someone almost die from lack of oxygen and food. If only he was on Earth, everything would have been fine. But no, he wanted to be a big astronaut and go to Mars. Well, that's what you get.
The AP Biology students continued their review of the material that will be on the exam covering Microorganisms and Disease which happens this Thursday. No school on Friday!!

Day 136

March is the worst. October is close with its bad attitude and dumb holiday but March definitely is the worst. No one likes it.
The Chemistry students go their article today for the school-wide write which happens tomorrow. The article is about how genes and the environment play a role in how you can either be a dandelion or an orchid. I'd like to be a daffodil. No reason.
The AP Biology students started a bit of a review of stuff for the exam that is this Thursday. It's gonna be on Microorganisms and Disease. In fact, that's the title of the exam.

Day 135

Fridays are great, aren't they? I like 'em anyway.
The Chemistry students learned why Earth is so awesome. really it's because of our thick atmosphere. Mars doesn't have a thick atmosphere and that is why it will always be the bad joke of the solar system. Not that any of the other planets have anything to brag about. Mercury is stupid and Neptune sucks.
The AP Biology students got their article on Success that will be used in the school-wide write which is happening next week. Next Tuesday, specifically. That's where everybody in the school gets a writing prompt and cites articles to support their ideas. I'm pretty sure that's what happens.

Day 134

The WASC people were here today. That is the last time I will ever have to write that sentence. I'm pretty sure anyway.
The Chemistry students did the Explosion Lab today. It was fun because there were only minor injuries and Shea almost caught on fire. Super exciting. Anytime you get to mix hydrogen and oxygen cool things happen. And loud things too.
The AP Biology students began a discussion on bacteria which is good since we have an exam next Thursday on Microorganisms and Disease. Staphylococcus is real simple to understand.

Day 133

Today is the PSAT! Yippee! I proctored the exam so I wasn't in class today but neither were most of my students because they were taking the PSAT. Yippee!

Day 132

3/20/2018

Day 132?? That means the school year is 11/15ths of the way complete. Only 4/15ths of the year left! Yay!
The Chemistry students produced some hydrogen gas today and then proceeded to light it on fire. Which is cool and everything but lighting hydrogen gas on fire in the air can only bring you so much joy. Lighting it in the presence of 100% oxygen? Well, that's whole other story which will be told on Thursday.
The AP Biology students discussed a bunch of things about viruses. We talked about the lytic cycle, the lysogenic cycle and H1N1. Viruses are pretty cool things except that they will probably end up killing most of us in the future. Well, maybe not. We'll have to wait and see.

Day 131

3/19/2018

Today is the biggest candy day of the year when Sweet 16 teams bestow upon their students the fruit of their labors. Fruit being candy.
The Chemistry students watched how easy it is to blow up something if you know a little bit about hydrogen gas and oxygen gas and what happens when you mix the 2 together. Yes, it's the Explosion Lab! I demonstrated how to make those gases and what happens when you mix them together and decide to light them on fire. The students get to do this fun thing later this week.
The AP Biology students learned about Charles Monet and his adventures with hemoraggic fever which basically turned him into a bowl of blood jelly. Never before had I wanted so badly to wash my hands after reading something.

Day 130

3/16/2018

Boy, a lot of students were gone today. Track, ski trip and softball game (which I bet got cancelled) made my classes a lot smaller than usual.
The Chemistry students just made sure that they completed their review problems and put them in their folder. We also watched games! I think we did anyway. I went with the Ski Club to Mt. Shasta which was sooooooo awesome. I haven't skied in a real long time and it was great! Now I want to go back. 5th and 6th period should have watched the games but who knows?
The AP Biology students (those who showed up anyway) watched in amazement while Cory took his shirt off and sang the Butler fight song. It was both great and disturbing.
