The AP Biology students began the discussion on Chapter 5, the last chapter of work before the first exam of the year. We talked about carbohydrates, dehydration reactions and the good ol' 1-4 glycosidic bonding within maltose, a disaccharide.
The Biology and Chemistry students were treated to the one and only Shea Bertolucci today. You see, during Collaboration Days, I spend time talking about college; what it takes to get in, what when you're there, how much it costs - stuff like that. Even though, today wasn't a Collaboration Day, I decided to go with college stuff. Anyway, Shea showed up with some questions about a scholarship she got last year. Shea graduated last year and got into UCLA and she's leaving in 4 weeks. Anywho, Shea stayed for 5th and 6th period and discussed her college application experience. It was a unique opportunity for the students to ask questions of such an accomplished West Valley Alumnus.
