Day 157

Oh boy. Trout tomorrow!! And it's Friday! What a great day!
The AP Biology students looked at more AP Biology Exam practice questions today in preparation for the big ol' exam which is a week from Monday.  Hopefully, the students have been prepping all along and this is just icing on the studying cake.
The Biology students worked on the Touch Receptor Lab today. I'm pretty sure their fingers are the most sensitive parts with their foreheads coming in a distant 14th. We will continue this work next week.
The Chemistry students learned that alkanes aren't the only hydrocarbons you have to worry about.  Not that you would worry about hydrocarbons. But in a way you probably should since their use is really screwing up the Earth but, hey, that's something for you grand kids to worry about. Anywho, alkenes and alkynes are the stuff we talked about today.

2 more days until the trout opener!!!
The AP Biology students discussed the structure of neurons and the complicated nature of nerve impulse conduction. We are truly electrical creatures, aren't we?
The Biology students probed the very nature of our sensory system by jabbing each other with toothpicks.  Isn't that always the way of discovery and learning? Getting stuck with a huge sliver by a kid you'll forget about in 4 years.
The Chemistry students analyzed the results of the Combustion Lab today.  We calculated thermal energy and heat of combustion and even molar heat of combustion. The students turned in the answers to several questions pertaining to the lab results.

Today was a minimum day! Good for students but not for me. Well, maybe not. I think I have some interesting things to do later.
The AP Biology students watched the 2 irritating people have a baby.  Well, just the female had the baby but I bet the male had sympathetic labor pains. Super weird guy and I bet he was a helicopter parent.
The Biology students checked their grades and made touch devices out of index cards and toothpicks. We're gonna use them tomorrow in the Touch Receptor Lab.
The Chemistry students went over the Gas Laws Exam in detail.  I hope some students take advantage of this and re-take the exam as soon as possible. I predict 7 students re-take it. 12 should but 5 students will be too busy with texting their friends during Achievement even though they're sitting next to them.

A lot of stuff is happening this week. Track meets, college presentations, baseball games....I wonder how many students will be missing class???
The AP Biology students saw a dramatic film illustrating, among other things, the conception of a human, the development of a fetus and the love between 2 sort of irritating people.  They're gonna have a baby!
The Biology students talked brain anatomy and what parts of the brain perceive what types of information. Again, really cool stuff.
The Chemistry students conducted the Combustion Lab today where they heated a known amount of water with a known amount of candle wax which is really just an alkane with the formula C25H
52.
We will analyze the results on Thursday.

Know what's almost here? The trout stream opener!!!  Hat Creek here I come!
The AP Biology students finished up their mature discussion of the female and male reproductive anatomy stuff and what it takes to make a baby and what it takes to deliver one. Not a stork, I can tell you that!
The Biology students checked out some cool stuff on the brain and perception.  Really interesting things that brain of ours does!
The Chemistry students finished up Part 3 of the Modeling Alkanes lab and turned it in.  Onward to burning these things. And by things I mean alkanes like propane and octane.

Friday already? Wow, that was quick.
The AP Biology students reviewed the practice AP Biology Exam today. We went over 69 problems, a whole multiple choice section of an AP exam. It's getting here.....
The Biology students began a look at the new Unit which is on Human Biology. First stop, the amazing nervous system of human beings. It's pretty awesome.
The Chemistry students continue the Modeling Alkanes Lab today. We examined the nature of structural isomers and how to tell the differences between them.  Just name them and if they have different names, they're different! Easy!

Man, only 29 more days!  They're gonna go quick. I hope.
The AP Biology students took a practice AP Exam today. So now all the students have taken this practice thing. Tomorrow, we will go over this.
The Biology students took the Microorganisms and Disease Exam today.
The Chemistry students began the Modeling Alkanes Lab today.  It involves building models of different alkanes and naming them. We will continue it tomorrow.

4/20. Hahahahaha. Today the school year is officially 5/6ths of the way done.  Only 1/6th to go! The classes were a little shorter today because of the career stuff on campus.
The AP Biology students discussed human reproduction maturely and with the utmost decorum. It was great.
The Biology students finished up their review of the material that is going to be on the test tomorrow!! I hope the students are ready!
The Chemistry students continued with the discussion of hydrocarbons and naming them. We named a bunch of structural isomers which not that many humans can do. Today, around a new 20 humans can do it now.

SBAC testing this week. So..........great?  No, it's stupid.
The AP Biology students finished up the Circulation and Respiration discussion today. Onward to Human Reproduction which is really cool and not for the obvious reasons. Hormonal interaction is a really cool for the obvious reasons.
The Biology students began a review of the material that will be on the Microorganisms and Disease Exam which is scheduled for this Thursday.
The Chemistry students started the Organic Chemistry Unit today by learning how to name simple hydrocarbons.  It went great and the students know what propane is.  I think.

Mondays can be awesome but only if you win the lottery on a Monday.
The AP Biology students, what there was of them, took part of a practice AP Biology Exam.  The real deal isn't that far off and we gotta be ready.
The Biology students had the last day of working on the Life in Pond Water exercise.  All of that stuff is due on Wednesday!
The Chemistry students took the Unit 7 Exam today on Gases and their behavior. Next stop, Organic Chemistry!
