The last day before Spring Break!! A lot of kids were gone for various activities today like track and baseball and softball..... a bunch of things. We just kinda chilled and reveled in the idea that there are only 42 more days of school.

This feels like a Friday because I bet a lot of students won't be here tomorrow and not a lot will get done but you never know. It still feels like a Friday though.
The AP Biology students took the Biodiversity Exam today. That means we're gonna start the Animal Structure and Function Unit soon. The Biology students finished the Bacteria Collection Lab today. They made their final observations of the bacteria and mold growth in the agar plates and answered a bunch of questions about those very same observations. The Chemistry students finished their activity on the Boyle's Law and Charles' Law using the iPads. They created graphs that mathematically explained the relationship between volume and pressure and volume and temperature. I'm pretty much ready for a week off. How about you?
The AP Biology students wrapped up their review of the material that will be represented on the Biodiversity Exam which will be given tomorrow. I wonder how many students will walk into the room and ask for the exam to be given on Friday? I predict 4. The Biology students checked out the bacteria and mold growth on the agar plates for a second day. It's pretty nasty. Those plates from the gyms are particularly gross. Anywho, we also took samples from brave Connor's hand and my own mouth. We will culture these samples and see what appears. The Chemistry students used iPads today in order to utilize an app called GasLaws HD. The app explores the relationship between volume and pressure (Boyle's Law) and volume and temperature (Charles' Law). We will finish that up tomorrow. Today marks the mathematical end to 75% of the school year. Only 45 more days to go!
The AP Biology continued the review of the Biodiversity Unit by using the Activ-Votes and taking a review quiz via a multimedia production produced by yours truly. Not a big deal, but an effective learning experience. The Biology students checked out the agar plates for bacterial growth and, boy, was that disgusting. The 2 dirtiest places on campus (according to our data)? The gyms, both large and small. Gross. We also talked about how bacteria morphology can be used to name certain colonies. The Chemistry students did some Charles' and Boyle's Law problems as a way to introduce the predictability of gases in normal situations, like classroom temperatures. The beginning of Spring, the beginning of the 4th quarter and the beginning of the last week before Spring Break!
The AP Biology students began an extensive review of the material that will be on the Biodiversity Exam which will be given this Thursday!! It is a lot of material so I decided to be nice and let the students have some information written on a 3x5 notecard that they can use on the test. The Biology students continued the Microorganisms and Disease Unit by collecting bacteria and mold samples from around the campus. I wonder which location will be the dirtiest? I'm thinking the Boy's Locker Room. The Chemistry students revisited information on Pressure and Force. We also talked about why it isn't a good idea to dive down in the ocean to about 100 feet, see a Great White Shark, panic, and swim like crazy back to the surface. All of my classes wrapped up work on either some Chapter review stuff, Disease brochures or extra credit things. We spent the periods doing that and watching Day 2 of March Madness. We saw Cal get their butt kicked by Hawaii. You know, I'm not an alum of Cal but I have a certain connection to that university and you'd think one time they wouldn't disappoint me. Nope, not today.
And so it begins......MARCH MADNESS IS HERE!!!!!
The AP Biology students worked on the Chapter 34 Reading Guide while checking out the Duke UNC Wilmington game. The Biology students worked on either the extra credit assignment promoting violent mascot behavior or the Disease brochure or movie poster. The Chemistry students worked on their extra credit thingy while checking out the UConn Colorado game. OK, it's official. I'm sick. I stayed home today. At least I think I did. Let me tell you, my brain is all messed up. Of course, now I'm able to relate to the commoners.
All my classes either worked on their respective assignments or got their extra credit stuff ready for MARCH MADNESS!!! Well, now I'm officially feeling crappy. Again!
The AP students discussed the beginnings of vertebrate evolution and diversity. Fun fact: if your cousin was eaten by a great white shark and you caught the great white shark a week later, I'd bet your cousin would still be in this animal's primitive digestive tube. The Biology students worked on their 2 big assignments: the Disease Brochure/Movie poster and the extra credit March Madness assignment. Fun fact: the Disease assignment is the PRIORITY!!! The Chemistry students worked on their extra credit assignment where the students will sing, at the top of their voices, their love of their fake alma mater. March Madness is here!!!!! Of course, so is every kid who should be home sick and they're makin' me sick!
The AP Biology students go their teams today and we talked about the extra credit stuff they can do this week. In fact, all classes did this. We all went to the library to learn more about the colleges that the students were assigned. Yay college!!!! |
