The Chemistry students finished a discussion about electrons, energy levels, an atom's stability, valence electrons, bonding of ions and filled outer energy levels. That is a tremendous amount of important information and the students were up to the challenge. You can explain so much about the behavior of an atom by just knowing how many valence electrons it has. We also talked about a kinda fun thing we will do tomorrow. The students are going to get a sample of really dirty water and using the materials I will provide, they will attempt to recover as much "clean" water as possible.
The AP Biology students were subjected to a lot of information about cell respiration, the energy production within a cell. You know what's awesome? We breath oxygen because oxygen is highly electronegative and this electronegativity allows oxygen to "pull" electrons through the electron transport chain, thereby producing energy in the form of ATP via oxidative phosphorylation. God, I love this stuff!
