Friday again! I think we only have 4 more Fridays and that's cool.
The Chemistry students learned more about molecules that are primarily hydrocarbons but have some oxygen stuck in there as well.  We looked at the structures of carboxylic acids and alcohols. When you mix those 2 things together you get another organic compound, an ester.  Esters have unique odors and can be fun to make.  Today, I made methyl salicylate out of salicylic acid and methanol. Methyl salicylate has another name: oil of wintergreen.  It smelled good.
The AP Biology students continued working on the Animal Behavior lab using the rollie-pollies which I think is spelled that way.
